About the Class

This 4 hour class is the ideal experience for those who have always wanted to try their hand on the potters' wheel or who wish to improve their throwing skills. In this class of up to 6 people you get the opportunity for direct guidance and the chance to learn from others. It is ideal for the complete novice or practising potter. After a demonstration by Cáit, each student will have their own wheel to practise making their own pots and tuition from Cáit. At 1pm everyone will have the chance to add coloured decoration to their pots using coloured clay 'slip'. After tidying up, the pots will be left to dry, fired twice with a clear glaze added by a Reading College staff member. Your pots should be ready for collection from the college the following month.

Materials included

4kg of clay (we usually use red earthenware), coloured slips for decoration, all necessary tools and equipment, and an apron. Up to six pots will be fired twice with clear glaze added over the top by a member of Reading College staff.

What to bring

A notebook, an old towel, a water bottle and a snack. Please also wear or bring clothes and shoes you don't mind getting messy in, and a hair tie if you have long hair.

When

One Saturday a month during term time.

About the Teacher

Cáit graduated from Ceramics at Glasgow School of Art in 2006. She has been teaching pottery regularly since 2017. She loves the opportunity to share her passion for clay and help others have the opportunity to get their hands on a pottery wheel and learn the skills needed to create their own clay work.
