4 Week Throwing

Develop your throwing skills in this series of weekly classes. Cáit will guide you through throwing forms on the potters wheel, how to trim your pots, and then glaze your pots in the final session. Your pots will be fired and ready to collect a few weeks after the end of the course.

There’s only two spaces on each course which means each individual will be supported at their experience level, ie. beginners or intermediate etc. 

4 week course structure:

March 9th: Throwing

March 16th: Throwing/trimming

March 23rd: Trimming

March 30th: Glazing

Course fee includes:

4 kg Clay (choice of studio white earthenware /White St Thomas stoneware)

range of glazes

Bisque firing for up to 6 pots

Glaze firing for up to 6 pots

All tools and equipment required

(with of course demonstration and guidance throughout)

(Additional clay and glazing etc. can be purchased on a per pot basis.)

What to bring/wear:

- shoes and clothes you don't mind getting clay on.

- Long hair should be tied back, and long nails cut.

- Apron

- Old towel

I'll provide all the tools, clay, glaze etc. that you'll need, but if you have your own that you'd prefer to use feel free to bring with you.

Further details:

There are two people on this course, I'll begin by finding out what you'd like to work on at the start of week 1 and then through demonstration and guidance help you work on your throwing and trimming preferences. By the end of week 4 you'll have had the chance to throw and glaze up to 6 pots using up to 4kg of clay. (Additional clay and glazing etc can be purchased on a per pot basis.) If you'd like to work on repeated forms, improving a particular aspect of your throwing, or learning a new form, or add-ons such as handles, spouts etc let me know and we can look at one or maybe two of these things in the time we'll have available.

You will need to clean the pottery wheel at the end of each session and materials provided to do so. (This will be the final half our of our class our class, i.e. cleaning finished by 8:30pm)
